What To Expect

Another happy sailor showing us what to expect when sailing San Francisco Bay and the Golden Gate onboard, Taihoa, the history museum vessel out of Sausalito.

The Bay can be quite blustery in the summer time…

For that reason you’ll want to make sure to dress in layers so that you can take things off if you get warm but have them available to put back on when the wind is blowing.

In the winter things tend to be calmer wind wise, but cold in the shade. You’ll also want to make sure to have a rain jacket and pants if there’s any chance of a shower on your charter date.

Please make sure to only wear soft soled shoes like sneakers or deck shoes as hard soles will damage the canvas deck of our boat. A warm cap and/or a baseball cap is also a good idea. If your hands get cold easily then bring your gloves.

It’s always a good idea to have a spare change of dry clothes and shoes packed away in your car that you can change into when we return to port in case you caught a wave or two.

Bring your sunscreen.

Expect to see plenty of wildlife! We regularly encounter whales (especially in the spring), sea lions, harbor porpoise, harbor seals, many different types of sea birds, jelly fish, and the occasional Thresher shark. Bring your binoculars and bird books!
