We had a great day aboard the Taihoa sailing around Angel Island. The boat is a beautiful and well-cared-for piece of history, and it was a privilege to experience it on the water. Captain Dough was a consummate host, letting us experience sailing and immerse ourselves in the history of the San Francisco Bay. We look forward to bringing our family in the future.Posted on Andre' LucasTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Captain Doug is the best!! I couldn't have asked for a cooler experience sailing around the bay with him. He explained to us the history of the boat, the city, the bay, and everything in between. Highly recommend doing this with your friends or family around the bay fog or shine.Posted on Lily MarkTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. captain doug was the best! we had an amazing day sailing the bay and learning local historyPosted on Denise Laxén Di-ZazzoTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We have been dreaming of sailing on the Bay for years, and finally made it happen and we are so glad we chose to do it with Captain Doug aboard the beautiful Taihoa. Doug tailored the entire afternoon to our family, including our two young kids (4 and 10 years old) who had no prior sailing experience. He made us feel completely safe and engaged, sharing fascinating bits of Bay Area history along the way. It was the perfect mix of adventure and relaxation, with breathtaking views of San Francisco, the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, and Angel Island. Thank you, Captain Doug, for an unforgettable experience and for introducing our kids to sailing in such a fun and effortless way!Posted on Carla WTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. On a recent visit to San Francisco, we sailed with Captain Doug on an expedition around the Bay. What a unique and wonderful experience! If it’s not on your bucket list, it should be. We had the option to hoist some sails and man the helm all under the expert tutelage of Captain Doug. He shared stories and history about the bay and his charming wooden sailboat. He perfectly set our expectations for the journey. We laughed, learned, and so very much loved this adventure.Posted on Jenna ElliottTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We had a great day in the Bay with Taihoa. Captain Doug was very well informed, engaging and charasimatic, and entertaining throughout. Our Captain
Redefine Sausalito Sailing Experience with Captain Doug Workmaster and Taihoa
Meet Captain doug Workmaster, the yachtsman steering Taihoa, who has a knack for transforming the whole experience of Sausalito sailing. doug’s seafaring saga began back on Lake Ontario, where he first caught the sailing bug while his dad chased racing trophies. “Those were the days,” he chuckles, recalling how they’d zip around in dinghies as kids while the grown-ups duked it out on the big boats. Fast-forward to ’87, and Doug finds himself on the windswept shores of San Francisco Bay, swapping lake breezes for Pacific swells. “Figured I’d give the Bay a shot,” he grins, “since it’s practically in my front yard.” As a USCG captain with decades of know-how, doug knows better than to ever turn your back on San Francisco Bay.

From hardcore yacht racing to what he calls “adventure sailing,” doug’s journey has been a tidal wave of excitement. Ultimately, he ditched the macho yacht club vibe for a life of coastal cruises and epic ocean crossings.
Off-duty, doug’s a history buff (thanks to his old man), keen on keeping Taihoa’s legacy alive. “It’s like running a floating museum,” he grins, “only with fewer dusty artifacts and more wind in your hair.” So, if you’re up for a nautical escapade with a side of sea tales, a few cheeky sea shanties, and maybe a bad boat joke or two, Captain doug and Taihoa await. Because life’s too short to stay anchored—you gotta sail with the wind, ride the waves, and maybe even beat an America’s Cup boat at their own game (even if it’s just a story).

- All maintenance, installations, and repairs are personally handled, ensuring that the boat is kept in excellent, if not better, condition for future generations.
- The captain lives aboard Taihoa full-time, showing a total commitment to the maritime lifestyle. This dedication goes beyond that of a typical charter boat captain, offering guests a unique and highly personalized sailing adventure.
